Habits You Should Include in Your Everyday Life to Avoid MS Flares

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease accompanied by several symptoms, which can flare at any moment. An MS flare is described as the reaction that occurs when the immune system assaults an area of the brain or spine.

Some of the most common MS symptoms include: feeling of weakness, memory issues or trouble thinking, impaired vision, and loss of sensation. These symptoms can last several hours or even weeks. According to studies, practicing healthy habits can help you avoid flares or at least diminish them.

Here are four simple habits that can help:

  • Frequent exercise

It would be great if you could exercise every day, but if this option is not feasible, even four times a week could help. Exercising  can help you maintain better health, but also reduce fatigue, a very common and frustrating symptom of MS. Exercises that can be of particular help for your fatigue are stretching, strengthening, balancing and aerobics.

  • Excluding stress from your life

Reducing stress and being able to manage it could be of significant help. According to recent studies, 85% of MS flares may be related to stress. There are several exercises that can help you relieve stress. You can try meditation, yoga or any other types of exercises that focus on the relaxation of your mind and body.

  • Exercise your MS memory

MS flares can affect your mind and they can make it feel fuzzy and “foggy”. Keeping your mind busy and exercising your brain can help you stay active and sharp. How can you do this? Be curious, and stimulate your mind. Try playing board games, solving puzzles or crosswords.

  • Get good sleep

MS flares could also cause fatigue. Make sure to take a good night sleep, which according to studies, can help reduce the severity of the symptoms. Moreover, if you feel tired throughout the day, you can also take small naps, which can help you regain energy.
